Personal Bio

My name is Brian Makarius. I live in Manhattan, NY and I’m originally from Smithtown, Long Island. I’m a top performing personal trainer at Equinox Gramercy. I received my bachelors degree in exercise science from Hofstra University and have my personal training certification with the nationally accredited ACE organization. My family, my friends, and helping others are what is most important to me in the world.  My passion for helping people is why I began my journey as a personal trainer and it is central to who I am.  I love what I do. I find no greater satisfaction than helping someone make progress. From losing 20 pounds, to living pain free, to increasing quality of life, I am endlessly motivated to help you achieve fitness goals, big or small, whatever they may be. The mission of Body by Bmac is to help people feel great about themselves and create a platform where people can associate happiness, fulfillment, and positive change with health and fitness.

Every person is unique – different lifestyles, backgrounds, genetics, fitness levels, injuries, tendencies, mindsets, nutritional needs – and every person has different goals – from complete body transformations to regaining a bit of self-confidence through exercise. What works for one person may not be well suited for another. Prior to working with Brian, I had strength trained twice a week, supplemented with spinning and HIIT conditioning classes for several years. After the first year of “beginner gains” I had more-or-less plateaued in my simple lifts and began to find the app-based workouts I was using less motivating. It was then a friend recommended I start personal training with Brian. Focusing on compound and functional fitness, I very quickly began to see and feel progress again. An hour spent working out with Brian is more fruitful than two or three hours in the gym alone. His workout plans are smart, tough, varied and all-encompassing.
